William was possibly named after his father's cousin,
William Scribner, with whom his father served in the
Civil War.
William Edward Scribner was born 30 Jun 1870 in Stony Point, east of Melissa, Collin Co., TX, and died 26 Aug 1947 in McKinney, Collin Co., TX.
William, one of nine children of Civil War veteran Andrew Jackson (A. J.) Scribner and Mary Elizabeth Wilkes, lived in Collin Co., TX his entire life.

William "Dugan" married Dora Magnolia "Nolia" Davis on 17 Nov 1894 in the Stoney Point Baptist Church, Collin Co., TX. The Rev. G. B. Airheart officiated.
Nolia, born 15 Oct 1872 in Cleveland, Bradley Co., TN and and died 29 Jun 1946 in Collin Co., TX. Nolia was one of the 10 children of Alexander A. Davis and Laura Caroline Cannady.
The Davis family and several other Bradley Co., TN families, including Alexander's sister Louiza Davis and her husband John Airheart, moved to TX and settled in the Stoney Point area in approximately 1879.
Nolia's niece, Jesse Magnolia Davis, daughter of James Lafayette Davis and Emily Veronia Osburn, later married William's brother, James Wilkes Scribner in 1909.
In the early 1900's, Dugan, along with one of Nolia's brothers opened a dry good store in Melissa. Dugan realized he wasn't cut out for retail when he had trouble getting people to pay their bills.
He eventually sold his share of the business and moved the family to nearby Weston, where he rented some farmland.
Dugan was easy going, good natured, and loved having people around. Grandson Warren Scribner recalled, "He was my buddy. We would listen to the Lone Ranger on his radio, and play checkers and dominoes."
Nolia was reserved and said little. Her granddaughter Doris Scribner Lack recalled, "Grandma was probably worn out having so many little boys. Women had a rough life back then."
When William was unable to farm due to his age, he and Dora moved to 705 N. Bradley St., McKinney, TX. William and Dora lived in there until their deaths.
Dora died at home, 29 Jun 1946 and was buried in Stoney Point Cemetery. William died shortly later on 26 Aug 19 and was buried beside his wife. Their children Boyd, Pauline, Melba, and Lynn lived in the N. Bradley St house until their deaths.
