Hayden Eugenia Hurst
HAYDEN EUGENIA HURST, daughter of Lewis G. Hurst and Mattie Kate McKinney, was born 07 Nov 1909 in Kingsland, Cleveland Co., AR and died 07 Feb 1997 in Lewisville, Denton Co., TX.
Hayden (Sister) was the oldest daughter of Lewis Gainey Hurst' and Mattie Kate McKinney Hurst's six children. She loved music, played piano "by ear", and enjoyed fashion.
She married high school sweetheart, Archie Henry Fleming, at age 16, eloping to Durant, OK. She lived briefly with her parents after marriage and completed high school, while husband Archie attended college. After college, her husband Archie was a school teacher and principal/coach in various rural towns, including Savoy and Ambrose. Hayden stayed busy tending to their children.
Archie and Hayden eventually settled in Austin, Texas, where Archie had obtained employment with the Texas Department of Public Safety. In Austin they raised child number 5, Carol "the caboose" and remained there until Archie's retirement. They then moved to Lewisville, Denton Co., TX. They were both active in the local Methodist Church and AARP. Hayden continued to play the piano for various social events and birthdays.
Hayden is buried with her husband Archie in the Old Hall Cemetery in Lewisville, Texas.
