By sons Written by Gerald Nelson and Gerald Nelson Jr. for their mother's funeral
My Mother was of pioneer stock-reared in a remote rural area in early life-married in a buggy-took long trips in a wagon (sometimes for a month or more). She was acquainted with hardships; yet a determined endurer, both physical and spiritual Depending upon al things in the Lord.
My Mother was a gentle and understanding person, willing to give of herself when she could contribute to the well being of others.
She was confident--always available to listen to your problems--to advise and counsel and to instill within a determination to push on, pick yourself up, do again until your resulting actions represented the very best of your capabilities.
My Mother and my Dad were constant Christians. I cannot remember a time when moving from place to place that they were not associated with and affiliated with other Christian people in a church. Dad was an ordained deacon in the Baptist church and was active for many years and always was supported wholeheartedly by Mother.
My Mother knew ways to comfort you when you were sick and troubled and exhausted herself with untiring patience.
My Mother was a provider for the family in those times of need and always gave of herself in those endeavors, which involved working with the public of all ages. She was vitally interested in the civic affairs of the community and served for many years as Chairman of the County Democrat Committee.
My Mother had a special place in her heart for all family members and their related problems. This cast her in the role as second mother to her brothers and sisters, providing the opportunity for welcomed gatherings in her home on special or spontaneous occasions. Each in-law was a special person to her. All grandchildren were drawn to her by whatever loving service or request they may desire.
All of my Mother's strong deeds and accomplishments were achieved on-aggressively, but rather through presentation of herself in truth, honesty, compassion, Christianity in every hour of her life. She only noted the good things in and about other people. She only noted the good things in and about other people.
