Archie Henry Fleming
Archie Henry Fleming, son of Walter Henry Fleming and Minnie Bell Johnson Fleming, was born 20 Sep 1906 in Savoy, Fannin Co., TX. He died 08 Aug 1985 in Lewisville, Denton Co., TX. The Fleming family resided in Savoy, TX but later moved to OK in 1914, finally settling in Calera, OK in the early 1920's.
Archie met his future wife, Hayden Eugenia Hurst, while they attended Calera High School. Hayden was born 07 Nov 1909 in Kingsland, Cleveland Co., AR and died 07 Feb 1997 in Lewisville, Denton Co., TX. Hayden's parents were Lewis Gainey Hurst and Mattie Kate McKinney Hurst.
Archie and Hayden eloped to Durant, OK and married on 26 Nov 1927. Archie was 21. Hayden was only 16. After their marriage, Hayden lived with her parents and completed high school while Archie attended college.
Archie was a school teacher/principal/coach in various rural towns, including Savoy and Ambrose. Hayden stayed busy tending to their children.
Archie joined the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1942 and served the state for over 44 years, first as a trooper and later as a manager until his retirement in 1971.
After Archie's retirement in 1971, they moved to Lewisville, TX, where they were very active in the community.
They were members of the First United Methodist Church and AARP. Archie was president of their Sunday School class and also served as president of the local chapter of AARP. Hayden played piano for church and other events.


Everyone who knew Archie liked him. He was very kind and personable. He enjoyed working in the yard, smoking a pipe, and watching sports on television, in particular, University of Texas college football.
Hayden enjoyed fashion, playing the piano, and socializing with family and friends.
Archie and Hayden dearly loved their "snoodle" Hansel ("Fritz").
Archie and Hayden celebrated their fiftieth anniversary on November 20, 1977. Hayden recorded in the guest book:
"The moments we most remember are with our family. There were good times and of course bad times in fifty years. But we just choose to remember the good. Our children and grand children are treasures to us."
