Robbie, daughter of Walter H. Fleming and Minnie Bell Johnson, remembers traveling as a child to OK with the family in a surrey with fringe on the top with furniture in wagons. Minnie had a cousin, Mable (Crouch) Turley, and an uncle, John Kitchings Johnson, living in Calera. The family visited them frequently.
When it came time for Robbie to attend high school, because there was no school beyond 8th grade, she lived with the Turleys in Calera, OK during the week.
The Turley home was across the street from the Scearce residence, which is how Robbie met Joe L. Scearce, her future husband. They were married in 1925 without telling their parents.
Both were teachers, Robbie with a two-year lifetime degree from Southwestern State College in Durant. Joe picked up the marriage certificate in Sherman and Robbie met him there where they went to Dallas to be married.
